Energy storage technologies are put to use for storing electric power generated from wind and solar power.

Energy storage technologies are becoming significant in the current scenario for energy. As the necessity for dependable, continuous and renewable sources of energy increases, so does the requirement of effective energy storage solutions. This lets us to access green, clean energy even when wind and sun are not available.

Here are some Types of Energy Storage methods

Pumped Hydroelectric Storage

Pumped hydroelectric storage is one of the most common types of energy storage method used in the current scenario. This includes storing excess electricity from renewable energy sources by lifting water from one reservoir to other at a higher elevation.

When there is a peak in the demand for electricity, the water stored is released back downhill in the direction of a lower reservoir where it runs a turbine for electricity production again. It’s a relatively inexpensive and effective way of storing electricity for releasing during peak hours, when there is a need.

Lead- Acid Batteries

Lead-acid batteries are usually used for storing extra electrical power as they have an exceptional density-to-weight ratios and are easy to maintain. These batteries have two electrodes, positive and negative. There is a reaction of these electrodes with an electrolyte during the application or removal of electric charge resultant in energy stored or released.

Though these types of batteries might have a short lifespan compared to lithium-ion batteries. Advancements in technology have brought about longer lasting options with better efficiency than their predecessors.

Coming to a Conclusion

It is because of the growing renewable sector all over the world, and due to the favorable government policies and improving economy, the demand for energy storage solutions is on the rise. The total value of the same will reach 410,543 MW in the years to come.
