Gil is the main currency in Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV). It enhances trade between city-states and allows players to purchase items, weapons and mounts.

In FFXIV, mounts are acquired in various ways and provide increased movement speed on the ground and in flight. The base movement speed increase can be increased by quest lines and purchasable enhancements.

Parade Chocobo

While Final Fantasy XIV is a game that is centered on exploring a massive world on foot, it also contains a large number of mounts to help you traverse Eorzea and Orthard faster. These mounts range from mighty steeds to technologically advanced vehicles, all of which come in various flavors.

Among the more difficult mounts to get in Final Fantasy XIV is Nightmare Whistle, which drops from three Realm Reborn trials: The Bowl of Embers (Extreme), The Howling Eye (Extreme), and The Navel (Extreme). This mount is extremely hard to find, and can take years to drop.

Another FFXIV mount that is easy to obtain is Parade Chocobo, which is a reward for acquiring 3,000 commendations from other players. To acquire this mount, you need to complete a number of cooperative tasks like roulettes, dungeons, and raids.

Cavalry Drake

If you're looking to add to your Final Fantasy 14 mount collection, the Cavalry Drake is a good place to start. This fire-breathing dragon is purchasable for 120,000 Gil after reaching Trusted reputation with the Amalj'aa Beast Tribe.

To get the Cavalry Drake, you'll need to complete a series of Amalj'aa daily repeatable quests. These are available at the Ring of Ash in Southern Thanalan. Once you've completed the series of daily Amalj'aa repeatable quests, you can hand in your earned reputation to the Amalj'aa Vendor to get this mount.

Alternatively, you can purchase the Cavalry Drake by exchanging 30 Irregular Tombstones of Philosophy and Mythology with Itinerant Moogles during the Moogle Treasure Trove event. This event only lasts until April 13, so you have time to earn enough Tomestones to buy this mount. You can also grab a Magitek Armor mount for free by completing the Main Scenario Quest in A Realm Reborn. This is a great way to upgrade your gear and make sure you're always ready to take on the world of Eorzea.

Gelmorran Potsherd

If you’re looking to build a mount collection, then the Gelmorran Potsherd is a great choice. It’s a rare, single-seater mount that can be obtained by completing Palace of the Dead (Deep Dungeon) floors 150-200.

It’s one of the most challenging mounts in the game, but it looks really cool. It’s also fairly easy to obtain if you’re willing to put in the time.

For starters, you’ll need to complete the Main Scenario Quest Into a Copper Hell in order to open the Palace of the Dead. After clearing the dungeon, speak with Nojiro Marujiro (New Gridania - Carline Canopy, X:12 Y:13) to learn about the menacing quarrymill that’s making its rounds.

You’ll also need to collect Gelmorran Potsherds from inside the Palace of the Dead, either from opening Bronze Chests or by clearing Floor 50. These Potsherds can be traded to E-Una-Kotor in the Quarrymill for various potions and rewards, such as Disembodied Head Resonator mounts. Cloud Mallow

Final Fantasy XIV mounts are an essential part of the game. Not only are they fun to ride, but they also show off your character to other players.

A cloud mallow is a huge, fluffy white ball that grows naturally in the Churning Mists. The villagers of Moghome have spent generations cultivating their own seeds to allow for stronger stems and larger yields of mallow puffs. They can be scattered atop even the most lethargic of dragons to stimulate them into work with unbridled joy. As a reward for advancing the Moogle quest and raising their friendship to the highest rank, you can purchase the Cloud Mallow. You can then drive or fly it with fluff.

Other great mounts to own in Final Fantasy 14 include the Battle Panther, Unicorn, and Ahriman. These mounts all require you to enroll in the veteran rewards program and complete some quests to unlock them.
