"No Water Land" is an upcoming documentary spotlighting the harsh realities of young Indian girls burdened with water collection, depriving them of education. Directed by Saumitra Singh, it's produced by Shaz Memon's NGO, Wells on Wheels.

Childhood should be a time of joy and education, but for many girls in various regions of India, they bear the heavy responsibility of fetching water for their families from an early age. This responsibility not only steals their childhood innocence but also robs them of an education, crucial for their holistic development. The upcoming documentary, "No Water Land," spotlights this grim reality faced by young girls in rural India.

The acclaimed Director Saumitra Singh and storyteller Abhi Raj Sharma have teamed up with producer Shaz Memon to produce "No Water Land," a film that showcases the tough choices faced by girls forced to prioritize survival over education.

Director Saumitra Singh recently announced the title of his documentary, "No Water Land." The film narrates the inspiring story of UK-based philanthropist Shaz Memon and his non-profit organization, "Wells on Wheels," that tirelessly advocates for the welfare and education of young girls in Maharashtra, who are denied basic education because they need to fetch water for their families.

Producer Shaz Memon voiced his concern, stating, "Every child harbors a dream, but not all children have the opportunity to fulfill it. I aim to alter this reality for young girls in rural India who are unfairly stuck in the harsh cycle of water collection. The sacrifice they make is more than just forfeiting their childhood and risking their health. For most, carrying water on their heads is an inescapable necessity due to their circumstances, meaning they miss out on an education, which is a tremendous burden for any young child."

Moved by the distressing stories of these girls who travel up to 4 kilometers twice a day carrying heavy pots to fetch water, Director Saumitra Singh shared his resolve to highlight their plight. Their obligation to fetch water has hindered their access to education and other normal activities necessary for their growth, a situation just 150 kilometers from a metropolitan city like Mumbai.

Saumitra and his team have finished their location scout for the shoot, and the project is currently in the pre-production stage. He expressed gratitude to Sanjay Kapoor, who introduced him to the makers and is also the brand ambassador of "Wells on Wheels." He also mentioned his recent completion of a feature film with Kapoor and his gratitude to Shaz Memon and the team at Nashik's "Wells on Wheels" for their incredible work.

The documentary will be produced by Shaz Memon's NGO 'Wells on Wheels' in partnership with Shukar Studios and Shiprartz, with Saumitra Singh as the director. Hasan Khan has joined as an Executive Producer, and Abhi Raj Sharma will focus on articulating the documentary's narrative on the girls' predicament.

Saumitra Singh, who won 70+ awards for his first short film 'The Wallet' featuring Naseeruddin Shah, is also looking forward to the release of his next films 'Taxi No 24' with Mahesh Manjrekar and 'The House of Lies' with Sanjay Kapoor.

Abhi Raj Sharma, the director of Shiprartz and writer of the documentary, expressed his appreciation for being involved in this worthy cause. He shared, "I co-founded this company with my partners Amaninder Singh and Manbir Sandhu to produce stories deeply rooted in India, but I never imagined we'd be sharing this heartbreaking story of young girls torn between survival and education."
